Blog

Dear SFO, Hemisphere's magazine, and Brookstone.

You are one of my preferred places to have a layover in the purgatory
that is air travel.  Thank you for your decent asian restaurants and
your free wi-fi.

Dan, Jordan, Anna Bebee, and I are here on our way to Australia to
play some shows.  Going to Australia makes me outrageously excited for
a number of reasons.  Mainly that it will not be winter there.  I have
also recently started drinking coffee so I'm eager to put my knowledge
of long blacks and flat whites to work.  There is no way I could order
either of those without getting a whoopin' in Atlanta or Brooklyn.
Finally: netball.  While in WA we will be going to Rottnest island
again so I can prove to the world that quokkas really do exist and
that they are super tiny and docile.  They look nothing like that on
google images--they look kind of terrifying.

Dan sucked at this month's Hemisphere magazine crossword puzzle while
I only had to guess at two letters.  I had to make a comeback after my
close defeat racing him to complete the USA Today puzzle in the van
after Fun Fun Fun.  Thanks for reading the contents of my mind.  I
shouldn't act so bold, though.  If Dan didn't know about sports cars
and African capital cities I'd be so screwed.

In any airport there is going to be a Brookstone store, and said store
will have something that when you see it you THINK you really need,
but it will really just be utterly useless and in a color that you
don't like.  When will I learn this lesson?

My free internet session is almost expired, so thanks SFO.   One last
Australianhappinessthought: I love that I can use words and phrases
like "sunnies," and "tinnies," and "take away" for no other reason
than it's like learning a new language without learning new words.

My best,

Kaki
